I recently attended a play at Chuckey Doak High School. Michael, one of the students in ignite, invited my wife and me. Michael was in the play, as well as a couple of other students who pop up at ignite from time to time. Laura and I had a good time watching a modern interpretation of Aesop's fables; we are glad that we were able to go.
After the trip I started thinking: drama is fine when you're on a stage, but drama in real life is a mess! It seems as though there are some people in this world who live for drama. I have seen people manipulate their emotions, as well as their situation, to take a little thing and turn it into a dramatic production.
Somebody says something that they don't like, their response is "oh yeah?! Well...," and they escalate the situation. Remember that we are to "turn away wrath" not to "turn up the volume" of our wrath. The Bible still says in Proverbs 15:1: "A soft answer turneth away wrath."
The passage goes on to say: "But grievous words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: But the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. " Do you use knowledge rightly or do you like to cause drama? As a youth pastor, sometimes I get weary of hearing the statement: "but it's true," as if the fact that someone knows something true means he must spread it. I often wish that this attitude was felt so passionately concerning the truth of the gospel. I read an article recently that addressed the information age and technology's use for purposes of defamation. In the article Pastor Paul Chappell said: "In an age when people use resources like the internet to spread gossip and lies, may we choose to use these resources to promote the truth of God’s Word. And in doing so, commit to avoid the traps of online gossip and sin."

Students, let's use knowledge rightly. Let's use our knowledge of others to build people up rather than tear them down. Let's be careful what we post on the internet. Finally, let's place value in our name, as well as others', for we represent Christ's name.
